Pictures from the past week

Hauptbahnhof: sponsored by Thueringen Milk.

I finally did my Pfand last week! This symbol on the bottle means you can take it back to the store for money. I'm still confused about it though. I was told that Pfand is done by a machine...but at Kaufland you have to sort your bottles back into their proper crates, which was stressful because there were people behind me in line. I got 2.25 back from a month's worth of bottles.

The tram stop by my apartment! No one was there for once, so I used the opportunity to snap a picture. (We're too far out from the center of the city to deserve a fancy sign that tells you how long until the next train arrives.)

I went to Aldi yesterday. At Aldi in Germany, Trader Joe's is just one of their brands for their outdoorsy snack foods. This Aldi was pretty grim - really tiny and picked over and everyone there was over 65. (The last thing was my fault; I went after I got off work at 11:30 am.) If you tell Germans about how Trader Joe's is considered a hip place to shop in the US and how much people love it, they'll laugh and/or get really confused. (Although Erfurt is in the middle of Germany, we have Aldi Nord here. Aldi in the US is owned by Aldi Sued and Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi Nord.)
